A little man with a gun is as strong as a big man with a gun. This is the maxim of the leader of a small country who, in an attempt to make the United Nations recognise his despotic power, establishes a secret missile base in Antarctica. It results in deep-freeze treatment for the Champions.
Reports of a mysterious explosion which has taken place in a remote region of Antarctica leads to Craig (STUART DAMON) and Richard (WILLIAM GAUNT) being sent there to investigate. Their base is one of the scientific stations manned by a dozen nations, the Commander (MARTIN BODDEY) of which warns them that previous search parties have failed to return. Accompanied by one of the scientists, Hemmings (ROBERT URQUHART), they set off on another search, and find not only the dead body of one of the missing men but a strange valley, surrounded by glaciers but with browned, bare earth. Obviously, it is the scene of an atomic explosion.
They eventually discover an uncharted base which is the headquarters of General Gomez (PATRICK WYMARK), head of a Central American state. It is also a secret missile base, set up by Gomez with the intention of making the United Nations recognise his despotic power and accept his country into UNO.
Hemmings is killed, but Craig and Richard succeed in breaking into the base and find a secret cache of atomic shells. Craig starts a time-fuse attached to one of them; in two hours, it will blow the whole place sky-high.
But they are captured before they can get away, and Gomez leaves them in an underground chamber, in which they will freeze to death. Back at Nemesis headquarters, however, Sharron (ALEXANDRA BASTEDO) has a premonition that something is wrong, and she sends out a general alert to the Base Commander, asking him to search the area.
Gomez, assuming that Craig and Richard are dead, places them on a sledge so that the bodies, if found, will be somewhere in the icy wastes; but, with their super human powers, the Champions are able to withstand the cold. There is little time, however, for them to overpower their guards before the ammunition cache explodes...
