The Champions face the task of saving London from atomic destruction when a nuclear submarine is stolen.
The terrifying danger of atomic weapons falling into the wrong hands becomes clear when an atomic submarine, loaded with four nuclear missiles, is stolen from Holy Loch, and its crew killed.
Nemesis is called in and Craig Stirling (STUART DAMON), with his intuitive powers, believes it to have been hi-jacked by a group of Nazis who will take it to the old Nazi naval H.Q. near the Island of Heligoland. Craig, accompanied by Sharron (ALEXANDRA BASTEDO), goes to Heligoland to investigate.
Meanwhile, Nemesis receives a note from the man in charge of the sub, Kapitan Schultz (REGINALD MARSH). Unless a ransom of five million dollars is paid, the atomic missiles will be unleashed on London.
Tremayne (ANTHONY NICHOLLS), the head of Nemesis, points out that the missiles cannot be released unless there is someone on board who knows how to handle them, and the finger of suspicion points towards a famous physicist, Dr. Mueller (JOSEPH FURST), who has vanished.
On the island, Craig and Sharron recognise Kruger Haller (JOHN WOODVINE) as a known war criminal, and they trail him towards the war-time submarine pens. Sharron returns to radio her report, but Craig has less luck: he is taken at gun-point and held prisoner in the submarine.
Richard (WILLIAM GAUNT), knowing intuitively that Craig is in danger, arrives there and sees Mueller, together with his abducted secretary Suzanne Taylor (PATRICIA ENGLISH) and another ex-Nazi, Allbrecht (ERNST WALDER). Mueller is heard to agree to Schultz’ plan so that he can retire in wealth.
Posing as Haller, Richard tries to persuade Mueller to leave with him, but Allbrecht calls his bluff, only to fall from a window during a fight. Now posing as Allbrecht, Richard leads Mueller to the submarine and Sharron, posing as Suzanne, accompanies them. But once on board, Mueller reveals their identities.
All three Champions are now prisoners. Meanwhile, Mueller and Schultz are quarrelling fiercely, Mueller intended only to take the money and return the missiles, whereas Schultz, a fanatic Nazi, really intends to destroy London. He forces Mueller to release the missiles.
Seconds too late, The Champions break out of their prison. But, as Mueller says, even a computer would take too long to re-route the missiles, and only seconds remain before they explode.
Can the Champions, with their super-human powers, avert the tragedy?
